This is a Herman Miller product, and it shows in the materials and finish. The Flo X is built to furniture standards — cleanly cast joints, a sculptural form with no exposed hardware, and a solidity in the hand that the engineering-first arms don’t quite match aesthetically. Under a large screen it holds firm with no sag or drift, the dual-spring counterbalance keeping even a 40-pound display planted exactly where you set it.

The confidence behind that build is the 12-year warranty — two years beyond even Ergotron’s 10, and behind only the UPLIFT Enfield’s 15-year term in our lineup. For a premium purchase, that term is a meaningful signal: Herman Miller expects this arm to outlast the monitor on it, and probably the desk too. Colebrook Bosson Saunders, the studio behind it, has designed monitor arms for two decades, and the Flo line’s reputation for longevity is well established.

It earns the same 9.5 as the Ergotron LX and HX — genuinely top-tier — rather than a perfect 10 only because, at this rarefied level, stability and refinement are a wash between the best arms; no single one pulls decisively ahead. What the Flo X adds over the Ergotrons here is the look, not more rigidity.

The Flo X’s signature is its motion. The D-ring tilt mechanism — Colebrook Bosson Saunders’ design — delivers genuinely fingertip-light adjustment that stays balanced as you move it, and it’s engineered to handle the leverage of larger and curved screens that can make cheaper arms feel notchy or stiff. Day to day, it offers smooth height adjustment, forward-and-back extension, tilt, and full portrait rotation; repositioning a big screen feels effortless rather than like a wrestling match.

A clever practical touch is the dual-spring system: out of the box it supports up to 40 pounds, but you can disengage one spring with a hex key to drop the comfortable range to 7–20 pounds, re-tuning the arm to a lighter monitor so it still floats smoothly rather than feeling overpowered. That adaptability is something the fixed-tune heavy-duty arms can’t do.

It scores 9.0 rather than matching the LX’s 9.5 because Herman Miller’s published reach is a touch more conservative than Ergotron’s longest arms — on a very deep desk, the LX or HX can push a screen back a little farther. In every other respect the motion is exceptional.

Bottom line on motion: The fingertip D-ring tilt is a highlight, and the dual-spring re-tune lets one arm suit a light or heavy screen. Marginally shorter reach than the longest Ergotrons is the only nit.

The Flo X is a large-format arm, and its capacity reflects that: a 7-to-40-pound range and screens up to 43″, mounting via standard 75×75 or 100×100 mm VESA. That puts it in genuinely heavy-duty territory — it handles big curved displays and weighty professional panels that would overwhelm a standard arm like the LX, which tops out at 25 lb and 34″.

What’s notable is the breadth of that range. Thanks to the dual-spring design, the same arm comfortably holds anything from a light 24″ panel (with one spring disengaged) up to a 40-pound 43″ display — so it’s a large-format arm that doesn’t punish you for occasionally running a smaller screen, the way the Ergotron HX’s 20-pound floor does. That flexibility is a real, practical advantage.

It lands at 9.5 rather than a perfect 10 because the Ergotron HX edges it on the raw extremes — 42 pounds and 49″ versus 40 and 43″, plus wider 200×200 VESA for the very largest ultrawides. For all but the most extreme displays, the Flo X has every bit of the capacity you’ll use, with more range at the light end.

Bottom line on capacity: Large-format strength — up to 40 lb and 43″ — with a dual-spring range that also suits light screens. Only the HX reaches higher, and only at the extremes.

The Flo X mounts with a C-clamp or a through-desk fixing, covering the two standard scenarios — gripping the desk edge with no drilling, or bolting through a grommet hole for a permanent, low-profile anchor. The hardware is well made and the fit is clean, as you’d expect at this price.

Installation scores an 8.0 for two honest reasons. First, like any large-format arm, it’s heavier to handle, and seating a big screen onto it benefits from a second pair of hands. Second, and more relevant to most buyers: because the Flo X is sold direct by Herman Miller rather than through the broad retail channel, it’s a more deliberate purchase — configured and ordered from Herman Miller, not grabbed from a marketplace with next-day shipping. That’s not a knock on the arm itself, but it’s part of the real ownership experience and a step less convenient than the clamp-and-go Ergotrons.

Bottom line on installation: Clamp and through-desk mounting with premium hardware; just heavier to fit, and bought direct from Herman Miller rather than off a retail shelf.

Cable management is part of the Flo X’s clean-desk appeal. Cables route along the arm and through the structure, kept controlled through the full range of motion so the sculptural look isn’t spoiled by a dangling bundle — exactly the kind of detail a design-led arm has to get right, and the Flo line does.

It earns a strong 8.5, on par with the best in our lineup. The routing keeps cords tidy and out of sight along the arm’s lines; like nearly every arm here, it manages rather than fully encloses every cable, but on the Flo X the integration is handled with the same care as the rest of the design.

Bottom line on cables: Tidy, well-integrated routing that preserves the clean look — among the better cable management in the category.

This is the Flo X’s only amber score, and it’s the honest one. The Flo X is the most expensive single arm in our entire lineup — a premium well above even the Ergotron HX, and several times the price of the budget arms further down the rankings. What that money buys is real: furniture-grade design from a storied studio, a 12-year warranty, large-format capability, and the refined D-ring motion. But measured purely as dollars-per-function, it’s an expensive way to mount a monitor.

The clarifying question is what you’re buying it for. If you want an arm that holds a big screen and looks like a designed object on a desk that’s part of how your space presents, the Flo X delivers something the engineering-first arms can’t, and the price is the cost of that. But if your priority is the holding and the motion rather than the aesthetics, the Ergotron LX (our #1) delivers comparable stability and motion for a fraction of the cost, and the Ergotron HX (our #3) actually exceeds it on raw heavy-duty capacity for less. We score value against the whole field, and on that scale a design premium this large lands at a 6.0 — fair for what it is, but the reason this otherwise-excellent arm sits at #4 rather than higher.

Bottom line on value: You pay a steep premium for design and the badge. Worth it if aesthetics are part of the brief; if not, the Ergotron LX or HX delivers the function for far less.
